Aerial Yoga with Katie Fisher

Take your yoga to new heights! Supported by the aerial silk hammock, enjoy the benefits of inversions and balance poses that might not be available in your daily asana practice on the floor. Everyone can build confidence, strength and flexibility – all with a smile. Katie is excited by all the healing and injury rehab possibilities of aerial yoga, not to mention its relief of spinal compression. Get taller – well, just a little! This practice offers phenomenal myofascial release, and it’s cheaper than a massage! Kindle or re-kindle your joy of yoga.

This class offers complete body-conditioning workout using the aerial hammock, aimed to improve flexibility and strength while refreshing circulatory and lymphatic systems. In this class we focus on precise and correct body mechanics, originating from the core and involving big muscle groups. Hanging inversions in the hammock help decrease compression and increase circulation in the spine. A restorative series of movements concludes the class, leaving students feeling relaxed and renewed.

Aerial exercise carries body movement traditionally done on the floor into the vertical dimension. Aerial Yoga provides the yoga student with a safe opportunity to increase spinal elogation with the support of the aerial hammock. Aerial Fitness provide additional ways to condition,  and stretch the body with the fun of being off the floor. Aerial Dance uses free hanging aerial silks rather than hammocks, eventually working toward Cirque du Soleil type movement. Students can always choose to enhance their skills by scheduling a private or duet lesson with one of our aerial teachers

Contra-indications for aerial classes: glaucoma, heart-conditions, fused spine, pregnancy beyond doctor recommendation. Inverted poses are not recommended during your period.

Yin Yoga:

Yin Yoga, also know as Taoist Yoga, targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments and tendons in the joints and spine. Over time, practice of yin yoga can lengthen these tissues, increasing range of motion. As connective tissue accounts for about fifty percent of the body’s resistance to range of motion, focusing on connective can dramatically increase flexibility. The intensity and physical benefits of the practice depend on duration of the asana and the temperature of the muscle. In order to lengthen the connective tissue, we extend the duration of the postures, engaging in static stretching. When the muscle is fully stretched, the stress reaches the connective tissue. In yin yoga, asanas are usually held for three to five minutes. Because of the long duration of asanas, one of the key values cultivated in the practice of yin yoga is patience. It is quite a meditative practice. If the muscles are cold, they will be less elastic, and more therapeutic stress will be transferred to the connective tissue. For this reason, it is recommended that yin yoga be practiced earlier in the day, before physical activity that warms the muscles and increases their elasticity. However, some note that practicing yin yoga after a strenuous day is psychologically soothing.David Sanders has been practicing and teaching Yin Yoga since 2003, under the guidance and teaching of one of his teachers, Alan McGrew while at Kalani Resort on Big Island, Hawaii. Alan is a student of Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, authors of the current practice known as Yin Yoga.

Steatch and Sweat: In this one hour class we will quiet the mind, warm and stretch the tissue and develop strength and focus. This is a challenging class, accessible for all levels, if you’re willing to explore and expand your edges. Class is a consistent format of basic and challenging poses and movements, so that the students can learn the flow and develop poise and grace. Participants are encouraged to work to their comfort level, guided by the first ‘rule’ of yoga; non-harming (Ahimsa). This class is serious fun!
