What is the meaning of Ayurveda?
Ayurveda means Science or knowledge of Life. This unique system of healing originated in India thousands of years ago. According to ancient Ayurvedic scriptures, life means the coordination of soul, mind, senses and body within the totality of life. As life exists from the five elements of nature, we are but part and parcel of nature herself, and from these five elements were born three doshas: Vata (air), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water).

What is Ayurveda?
In the Sanskrit language, the oldest language known to man, the word Ayu means life and Veda means to know about. Ayurveda means the “knowledge of life” and Amrita means "the nectar of immortality." This unique system of healing originated in India thousands of years ago gifted from the rishis, or seers of truth.

What is Life?
According to Ayurveda, the definition of Life is the coordination of soul, mind, senses and body within the totality of life.  We recognize the person from a deep expression of soul and spirit within a body. As life exists from the five elements of nature, we are but nature herself, and from these five elements were born three doshas:  Pitta (fire), Kapha (water) and Vata (air).

“As the rotation of sun, moon and wind hold this vast universe together, it is expressed as the macrocosm of this world. Pitta (sun), Kapha (moon) and Vata (air) hold this body together and is expressed as the micrcosm of this body.Together, these outer and inner worlds are seen as one.”   Ashtang Hrudaya 2.11

Sessions Available:

Diet/Lifestyle/Pulse Consultations:
A one hour session recommending specific dietary foods, herbs, yoga and lifestyle changes for your unique individual constitution and dosha type.

Warm Oil Vata PassifyingMassage: This deeply relaxing massage assists in managing Vata as well as bringing the 5 pranas: Prana, Apana, Samana, Udana, Vyana back into their natural balanced state. Large amounts of medicated oil are used.

Herbal Spa Massage:
Ayurvedic herbal powders are used as a scrub, mixed with warm oil. This treatment is stimulating, rejuvenating and deeply relaxing. The herbs help to penetrate the oils deep into the body allowing for detoxification, increased circulation and greater opening of breath or Prana.

Herbal Steam: Nadi Swedana:
Nadi, which means tube, uses steam from an herbal water decoction. It is a more penetrating type of wet heat because the steam actively drives the heat and oil deep into the joints and tissues. It is often helpful for treating arthritis.

Shiro Dhara:
Shiro means head and dhara means the flow or pouring of warm oil. This Shiro dhara treatment is very unique and specific to marma points on the head. These marmas are gently stimulated by the pouring of oil, thus allowing for a sense of deep peace and calmness within. Useful for insomnia, headaches, anxiety.

Katti basti therapy:
“Katti” means lower back and “bas” means to stay in place. Warm medicated oils are poured into a container of urad dough built around the lumbosacral or thoracic area which retains the oil to stay in one place for 10-15 min. This is beneficial for muscle spasm, pain and rigidity of the spine.

Uro basti therapy:
“Uro” means the chest and heart area. Warm medicated oil is poured into a container surrounding the location of the heart made from urad dough. This treatment assists in strengthening, as well as gently opening the emotional and spiritual heart.

Nasya:
Nasya opens and cleanses the channels of the head and sinus, improving the flow of Prana. Warm medicated ghee and/or herbal oils are gently dropped into the nose, which in turn purges and rejuvenates the tissues around the sinus and head. It helps to remove ama or toxins from the nose, ears, eyes, sinuses and mouth.

Marma Chikitsa:
Marma means secret vital energy. Chikitsa is a therapy where we apply pressure to a specific area through the vehicle of touch often used with essential oils. Through this pressure, messages are sent to the deep connective tissue, which in turn awakens circulation in the organ and subtle body. This can awaken dormant energies especially within the nadi, pranic and chakra systems.
