Wilcox Memorial Hospital is a charitable, acute care hospital located in Lihue, Hawaii. Serving Kauai since 1938, Wilcox Memorial Hospital is the island’s largest medical facility and has been recognized as one of the nation’s best small hospitals. Kauai Medical Clinic was established in 1966. It is Kauai’s largest multi-specialty clinic; its three satellites located in Eleele, Koloa and Kapaa, extend Wilcox Health’s ability to deliver care throughout the island. The Wilcox Health Foundation, established in 1981, enables the hospital to invest in medical equipment, education programs and healthcare services to better serve its patients. The Wilcox Hospital auxiliary contributes to hospital fundraising with proceeds from the gift shop and thrift shop.

With a medical staff of more than 100 physicians, Wilcox Health provides affordable and accessible primary and specialty care in obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, orthopedics, dermatology, urology, surgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, nephrology, inpatient dialysis, cardiology and a range of other services. Wilcox Health’s top-quality care and latest medical technology make healthcare more accessible and convenient for Kauai residents. The Wilcox Family Imaging Center provides MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, telemedicine, mammography, and bone densitometry. Cardio-pulmonary services such as 3-D Echo, stress testing and respiratory therapy are offered to patients, as well as rehabilitation for physical, speech and occupational therapy. Patients have access to specialty procedures such as endoscopy, cardioversion, bronchoscopy and transesophageal echocardiogram or TEE, as well as to hospitalists who are on staff 24 hours a day.

Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are provided for inpatients at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, as well as outpatients at Kukui Grove in Lihue. The Wilcox Surgical Center provides patients with large surgical suites that are equipped with the latest technology, including robotic capabilities and expanded recovery rooms for patient comfort. Services including endoscopy, cardioversion, bronchoscopy and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) are handled at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Special Procedures Unit. This past year, the Kukui’ula Development company donated $10,000 to the Wilcox Health Foundation, which enabled Wilcox to purchase state-of-the-art equipment to assist the orthopedic team when performing hand surgeries.

In addition to philanthropic donations, more than 100 people from Kauai volunteer their time every year at Wilcox.

Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Kauai Medical Clinic both play an active role in making Kauai a great place to live, work and play. Wilcox Health is committed to community health education and prevention programs and support groups. Community education programs in FY ’08 included: the “Valentine’s in Paradise” February teleconference to discuss heart disease prevention; the June Kids Summer Fest, sponsored by the Bone & Joint Center at Kauai Medical Clinic to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity; and the Women’s Health Symposium in November, which attracted over 200 attendees.

Wilcox Health sponsors other annual community events including the Arthritis Walk and the Old Koloa Sugar Mill Walk/Run. Employees join in supporting the Parade of Lights, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, the Aloha United Way Walk, the Hotel Association Charity Walk, the March of Dimes WalkAmerica and Blue Jeans for Babies. In April, Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Kauai Medical Clinic employees added to the Kauai Food Bank’s Annual Healthy Spring Food & Fund Drive with a whopping 3,549 pounds of food contributions.
