The Hawaii Avocado Festival 2008

Hawaii-Big Island hosts the Hawaii Avocado Festival March 1st 2008, 9:00am to 6:00pm in Captain Cook at the Amy B. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden.

The fun food festival is a showcase of the abundant varieties and uses of avocados grown in Hawaii. The festival includes avocado experts, the Ono Avocado tasting competition,  food booths with tasty avocado dishes, recipes, and great music! Hawaiian traditional opening ceremonies with Kumu Hula Keala Ching.

"The Hawaii Avocado Festival is a great way to learn about all the wonderful healthy ways to enjoy the great selection of avocado's in Hawaii" said event coordinator Randyl Rupar. " You'll be amazed at the different tastes and uses of many varieties grown here in Hawaii".

The festival will be held at the Amy B. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Captain Cook, a garden dedicated to the study of Hawaiian people and their cultural uses of plants, and is a perfect garden setting for many agricultural events like the Hawaii Avocado Festival.Kona Hawaii Avocado Poster

"Avocados are amazingly healthy and are used in delicious deserts, applied as beauty products, and are very nutritious" said Michael Saiz of Hawaii Health Guide, one of the events many sponsors, "We're excited to support a such a great event which educates the community and celebrates the avocado as sustainable agricultural food source for Hawaii.

The Avocado Festival is sponsored by the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii (Big Island) Office of Economic Development. Exhibitor and vendor booths are available to educate, sell or promote products and services to visitors and local residents attending the festival.
