UH Ocean Planet Film Series Kicks off with HIFF Best Documentary Award Winner at Spalding Auditorium.
"Time and Tide", the Best Documentary award winner at the 2006 Hawaii International Film Festival, opens the UH Ocean Planet Film Festival running from January 18 through May 6 at the University of Hawaii Spalding Auditorium. The film charts the relentless onslaught of the rising waters in the Pacific Island of Tuvalu and its devastating effect on the people there.
Programmed by Don Brown in cooperation with the UH Department of Oceanography, the series covers a wide range of topics involving the world's oceans, including tsunami research, ocean currents, coral reefs, deep sea volcanic eruptions, ocean pharmacology, and climate change in the Arctic and Antarctic. Films on ocean wildlife including whales, dolphins, penguins, and polar bears are also included in the series.
Each film program is presented in the UH Spalding Auditorium twice a week on Thursday at 7 PM and on Sunday at 5 PM. Admission is $5 for general admission and $3 for UH students, faculty and staff. Most films will be followed by a question and answer period with members of the UH faculty with expertise in the fields represented.
